Naomi is the President and CEO of Naomi Beard & Associates. For more than 10 years as a professional coach to attorneys and law firm executives, Naomi has drawn on her decade of experience as a practicing attorney to incorporate a deep understanding of law firm life in her work with clients.

Education and Background
Naomi graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, Order of the Coif, in 1997.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, magna cum laude, in 1993.  She practiced law for nearly 10 years with the firms Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP (Los Angeles; Washington DC) and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP (Washington, DC).

Naomi is a fully certified and credentialed coach, having earned the Certified Mentor Coach designation through MentorCoach, an International Coach Federation-accredited coach training program. She is qualified to administer and interpret a variety of standardized qualitative assessments, and is a frequent presenter at law firm and professional association events. She has been published in the New York Law Journal, and her contributions via electronic newsletter have been reprinted in a variety of online and print venues.

She is a member of the California, Virginia, and Washington, DC bars, as well as the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and the International Coach Federation.

Nina is the managing director of Naomi Beard & Associates.  Focusing on the professional development of attorneys and law firm professionals, Nina coaches her clients to proactively manage their careers.

Drawing upon nine years of law practice experience in both law firm and in-house settings, Nina collaborates with clients to improve their performance, develop their business and relationship-building skills, cultivate leadership abilities and manage work-life integration.

She also works with individuals to accomplish career transitions.  Through her coaching, she encourages clients to discover and pursue professional and personal opportunities that complement their strengths and align with their values.

Education and Background
Before entering the coaching profession, Nina served as in-house employment counsel for Nestlé, USA, Inc. She previously practiced employment and labor law with Littler Mendelson, P.C. of Los Angeles, and Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman, LLP of Beverly Hills.

Joey Silberfein, Senior Consultant & Director of Client Relations, has been in the legal profession for more than 15 years, including 13 years at large New York City law firms.

She launched her career at Proskauer Rose LLP, where she was a practicing attorney for five years, ultimately serving as the Legal Director of the Litigation Department. Her responsibilities also included leading initiatives for Proskauer associates in professional development, recruitment, diversity and associate affairs.

Joey’s entire legal career has been steeped in counseling and coaching attorneys in all aspects of career success. A salute to her career-guidance expertise was her appointment as chair of the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) Work/Life Balance Subcommittee as part of the organization’s Task Force on the Future of the Legal Profession.

She has served on numerous other NYSBA committees, as well.

Jessica Hedrick has been counseling attorneys and law students since 2008. Prior to joining NB&A, she served as Associate Director of Career Planning at New York Law School. She specializes in identifying each clients’ unique strengths, and developing expert marketing and interviewing skills that build strategically upon them. Jessica is actively involved in current issues in attorney career development, coordinating networking events with the New York County Lawyers’ Association and serving as a panelist at the New York City Bar. She began her coaching career at a small legal outplacement firm, counseling associates in transition to determine their goals, identify resources, and create strategic plans for individual success.

Jessica’s background includes a parallel career writing for stage and screen. Her contributions to independent film and theater have been recognized at Sundance, Cannes, and the New York International Fringe Festival. She holds a BA from Earlham College and completed a two-year acting training program at Meisner Studios in New York City.

Gina is a senior consultant with Naomi Beard & Associates.  In her work as a talent management consultant and coach for lawyers, she draws on more than a decade of experience as a practicing attorney with national law firms in Washington, D.C., San Francisco and New York.

In addition to coaching individual lawyers in all aspects of their personal and professional growth, Gina works with law firms to develop and implement strategic talent management initiatives.  In this capacity she advises firms on issues such as diversity and inclusion, professional development training programs, informal “on the job” training, competencies and benchmarks, individual development plans, performance evaluations, giving and receiving feedback, flexible work arrangements, multiple career paths, mentoring and sponsorship programs, and succession planning.  Through her involvement in multi-office law firm upward reviews and talent management audits for Am Law 100 clients, Gina has interviewed hundreds of associates, counsel and partners about all aspects of their professional development and has gained invaluable insights that benefit clients.  Gina is passionate about bringing more balance, diversity, humor and humanity to law firm culture.

Kathleen Overly, Senior Consultant, has been advising and counseling attorneys and law students since 2008, when she joined the Office of Student Affairs at The University of Pennsylvania Law School as the Associate Director for Student Development.  Most recently, she served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Yale Law School, where she oversaw both the Career Development Office and the Office of Student Affairs.  In these roles, she served as one of the primary supports to law students, who were navigating personal emergencies, critical academic and career decisions and life transitions.  She developed programs for students both to orient them to the nature of legal education and also to develop their own leadership skills, working with faculty, attorneys, and law firms in these endeavors.  She also served as a resource to alumni of both institutions who were navigating career transitions.

Kathleen’s location in Austin, Texas allows her to conveniently work with clients located in the Austin, Dallas and Houston legal markets.

Kathleen works with attorneys who are making career transitions and assists them in this broadly about what the next steps in their career might look like. Elaine Ventola, Senior Consultant, has over 8 years of experience in career counseling and professional development.  She worked as the Senior Training Manager at Goodwin Procter LLP, a leading international law firm, where she developed and presented training programs for the firm’s partners, associates and summer associates.  She subsequently joined the Office of Career Services at Harvard Law School, where she first served as a Visiting JD Advisor and then as an Assistant Director for JD Advising.  In these roles at Harvard, she counseled law students and alumni on career planning and job search strategies for the most competitive legal opportunities in the United States and abroad.  She also planned for and participated in programs on a broad range of career related topics, including professionalism, networking and business development.

Lauren is a Talent Development Consultant with Naomi Beard & Associates.  After practicing law for 15 years in both the public and private sectors, Lauren now works with law firms and their attorneys to improve their talent growth and development.

Lauren began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, NY.  During her tenure, she was the lead prosecutor on felony jury trials and assisted in the supervision of assistant district attorneys handling misdemeanor cases.  After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, she joined the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP as a Staff Attorney in their Los Angeles office, where she spent 10 years practicing general business litigation.

Marcie is operations director of Naomi Beard & Associates.  In addition to ensuring an efficient day-to-day operation of all aspects of the business for our clients and our team, she contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.

Background and Education
Marcie holds a B.S. degree in business management from Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management.  She has more than 15 years’ experience in business management, including 11 years of oversight for the daily operations of a multimillion dollar company.  Her work history also includes project management in human resources, finance, accounting and customer service.

Marcie is also a certified coach. She earned her certification in the MentorCoach Foundations program, which meets professional standards established by the International Coach Federation (ICF) for coach training.

She lives in suburban Los Angeles with her husband/high school sweetheart and their two sons, who keep her on her toes.
